Something to look forward to: Few games can excite missiles in silos like the original Command and Conquer. With a remaster in the works at two development studios, EA producer Jim Vessella recently posted an update on Reddit, where he shared a brief gameplay teaser and discussed some features of the game that players can look forward to.

It's not that often when gamers feel positive and hopeful towards an announcement from EA, but the publisher did kindle such sentiments last year when it revealed plans of remastering the original Command and Conquer games.

A Reddit post by Jim Vessella begins by addressing an important concern of gamers, who had been wondering if the remaster was going to be 2D or 3D. "We’re ready to share the Remaster has been developed in the classic 2D visual style, unlocking our ability to stay as authentic as possible to the original games." wrote Jim.

Since the plan for EA is to remaster, and not remake the classic games, Jim says their goal has been to remain authentic to the original feel of the RTS game, as he discussed recovering the source code of C&C Tiberian Dawn and C&C Red Alert in order to "accurately match the core gameplay, feel, and signature look of the legacy titles." and that ultimately led to choosing 2D visual style over 3D, as shown in the teaser above.

Jim also mentions that every gameplay asset has been "re-concepted, re-modeled, and re-animated" by the passionate, artistic team of Lemon Sky, one of the two development studios behind the game. Assets like the Construction Yard and Tesla Tank are rendered and exported in 2D to lineup "frame for frame with the original visuals." This approach also ended up with the Grenadier taking over more than 600 frames for a single unit.

Meanwhile, Petroglyph, the second development studio, has been able to come up with real-time switching of Legacy/Remastered graphics in Campaign missions for added nostalgia. "This means at any time when playing a Campaign mission, you can tap a single key to smoothly toggle between the original assets at 320 x 200, to the Remastered assets up to 3840 x 2160." said Jim, hoping that this would become a fan favorite feature.

He also mentions the ability to zoom the camera allowing players to "take in all the high definition detail, with an effective zoom distance between the DOS and C&C Gold camera heights." and encouraged them to head over to their new website to see more examples of the visual differences and updates.

Yeah, no. I will not pay a single cent to EA after they destroyed the entire franchise.

Well, if C&C Remastered turns out well and people don't buy it because of other games EA did, then it would be a clear message to EA that there's no point trying to appease fans. Personally I hope that this turns out well, that fans of the franchise buy it, and that EA will get convinced that it's worth making more games that fans actually like.

I don’t like EAs actions generally but if this is as good as it looks in these videos and it’s not heinously expensive and riddled with DLC il definitely buy it.

I am buying it because I have loved that game since my childhood.
I don't give a damn about politics, principals, or corporate image. When it comes to a good game I buy it.
Not buying something good just to protest against something is stupid in my opinion. C&C is one the bests the genre can offer, a true classic. I don't see a point in not buying.

If I want to express my opinion on EA I go to Reddit... They have the appropriate forums for releasing pressure lol. Don't spend a cent on microtransactions.
Also, don't pre-order $60+ games that you have no idea of at all... at least try and force devs to release a tested product... Just my 2 cents.

As long as the franchise is under EA I won't support whatever they do, good game or not (not that they can break the game too much with a visual upgrade). It takes much more than just a remaster of an old title to undo C&C Rivals and the other abominations.

These remasters they are working on are just quick cash grabs that prey on the nostalgia of the fans. I would rather support fan projects like OpenRA or C&C3: The Forgotten.

I cringe looking at this even in hd now.

Looks like upscaled textures or at best re-rendered textures, which for an old game are not too many. Fan projects and mods for games do much more but get hardly any notice. When EA does it, even tech publications start posting about it. SMH.

That's what the fans want me included.

I totally agree, the fact that its mostly made up of the original team from Westwood, I think this should be a hit!

Of course if they have fixed the sandbag wall bug... I'm going to cry

I know EA has been getting a bad wrap over the past years but lately they've been pretty hands off on game development with it's studios for better (CnC/Westwood) or for worse (Anthem/Bioware). I remember playing the original CnC on N64, RTS with a controller, boy was that rough.

I mean the original was pretty much perfect... why would you remke it?

Is it "time to rock and roll" yet?

Because it needs a remaster for better win10, as well as an updated network and game browser, not everyone knows about the 3rd party patches.

As long as a DRM free version of these remasters are release I'm in, otherwise I'll have to pass.
