emachine disc drives

  1. Hi,

I just bought a new emachines computer that came with a dvd/cd rewrite disc drive. However, I installed a second disc drive when I got home. the problem is that I can only get one of them to work at a time. If they are both pluged in only the new one works. If I unplug the new one then the factory one works. I called the company, they said something about going into the Bios to fix the problem, but I couldn't make any progress. Any advice would be great!

Make sure the jumpers on the rear of the drives are set correctly. If you old drive is master then set the new drive to slave or cable select. If you set them that way make sure your old drive is plugged into the end of the ide cable/ribbon. Then boot the computer, press del or F2 to get into your bios and find the screen that finds you drives automatically. Once it does, save and exit and let the computer boot normally.
