Entering Dell BIOS password

i have the bios password but i cant enter it before the laptop turns off am i entering it right is there any other key i should press while entering say caps or shift ctrl ect or have i a hardware prob thanks

It sounds like a hardware problem to me. Try removing the battery and running the laptop directly off of the charger.

The fact its turning off so fast clearly suggests there is a serious issue though.

it stays on password authentication screen but as soon as i press a key it turns off thanks
