Errotr msg playing music

Thamks fpr responding . My desktop PC is by Mesh (British Manufacturer) with Window XP and SP3 installed. I have use it to play music cds fairly infrequently so cannot say ehen the current problem came about. Other than this I am not experiencing any other sound problems save that when I open Media Center to see if , as an alternative, this would succeed in playing these CDs I notice there appears "Mute" on the screen.
