Extremely low framerate on BF2

Here are my specs:
Athlon XP 2700+
1.5GB ram
Geforce 7600GS
IDE 80GB and 200GB HD
thats about all that really matters, right?

Anyway, when playing at anything above 800x600, I get like 5 fps. I want to play 1280x1024, I know this is possible with my system without having no textures and all that stuff. Any tips and tricks that will get this game running better?

BTW: This is the demo too. I'm afraid to buy the game if it runs like this so patching should not be an issue.

Are you talking about Battlefield 2 or Battlefield: Bad Company 2?

Battlefield 2 should run fine on your system. Bad Company 2 will not as the minimum requirements exceed your system configuration.
