Fake crash

Sometimes I will be doing something and then my computer will lock up and I can't click anything. The screen then goes black (the monitor turns off). Then when I move the mouse the computer comes back on but what ever I was doing is distorted and my start menu has all these black lines on it. Video drivers are up to date. Diablotek GeForce 6600 512mb ddr2

Sounds like either an overheating problem (CPU/GPU) or a power supply issue. Have you opened your computer recently and blown out the dust? If not, get your can o air and clean that puppy out. Dust can cause heat build up.
