Fallout 76 won't be available on Steam

I'm right there with the rest, Steam is life. Easy sharing, packed with features, I have my game collection there (Almost ashamed to say over 1000 games... only lack the time to play :p).

Right? It's hilarious to see how dependant people are on things like Steam in order to play games. Seriously it isn't hard to go to go elsewhere to play.

Why would people go elsewhere? Steam does game distribution, and it does it *well*.

Uplay, origins, etc. are all obvious cash grabs trying to pad the bottom line rather than attempts to improve customer experience and satisfaction. Did any of the alternative publisher distribution platforms pass on the savings to consumers? Hell no.

I understand and agree that in principle having a single monopolistic monolith dominate the sector is not a good thing, however benevolent it may be (for now). But up till now Valve have shown no evil. They don't freeze accounts with the infamy of Paypal, or sell user data like FB, or peddle microtransactions-paytowin in games they develop/publish (AFAIK, I don't play DOTA or CSGO).

They have the goodwill of their consumers. So why would the average PC gamer go elsewhere? Valve seems to actually care about games and gamers. And the mountains of cash they rake in too, of course.

Even if Valve did turn evil PC gamers tend to be a reactive zealous bunch. Didn't GTA5s rating avalanche after they removed mod support? Can you imagine the furor if Valve tried to introduce a subscription fee?

GOG and Humble are perhaps the only real non-evil alternatives.

I can see many have forgotten the ways of direct, individual installs and playing them. Direct from publisher to consumer. Alternative to Steam like Uplay and so on is not the point.

Physical copies may have become obsolete, but developers/publishers can still sell them directly (digital copy), if they want. I always preferred that to current DRM-infused "platforms", like Steam or Uplay.

To repeat, never knew people will be so helpless without Steam.

"Steam charges publishers a 30 percent fee every time a game is sold on its platform" Daaamn did not know that.

Sure, I see your point having a nice market place to buy games is great and all however does that entitle Valve to take a third of your revenue when Bethesda has shown that they can make their own market place that works for their games that enables fans to play Bethesda games easily?
