I have a older laptop and Anti-virus software would really bog it down. I also choose to not run anti-virus software on any of my computers for performance reasons.

Sorry to disagree, I mean no disrespect. I think Spybot Search and Destroy is all I need for my usual use. I believe I got this malware from digg.com as that site seems to be targeted for these kinds of things.

Thank you for all your help, I think my computer is clean; but is it yet?

Spybot is not a substitute for an AV program. Not to mention, that it's a tool of the past and it often will slow your computer down.
I'm afraid, we won't be able to continue until you install AV program.
Without an active AV program, we're wasting time and you'll be back with some other infection, in no time.
