Red Knight Games is attempting to revive a long "forgotten" genre, the 2D action-platforming side-scroller. These styles of games have been stale for so long, and since Capcom has all but given up on its Mega Man series, Red Knight is ready to step in and bring nostalgia into the new-age with Grapple Knight. But first they're turning to Kickstarter in hopes of securing the necessary funds to complete their retro masterpiece.

Back when the NES, SNES, and Sega Genesis were popular (1990's), these types of “Mega Man style” games were in abundance. They were the perfect mixture of action, adventure, and difficulty, and Grapple Knight is shaping up to be one of the closest relatives to these retro classics.

The developer video above will give you a better idea at what to expect from the title, but the main gist has you side-scrolling, dashing, slashing, and grappling your way through enemies and obstacles. Graphically, the game looks great, and it definitely captures that nostalgic feeling. It uses the Unity Engine, allowing developers to pack a lot more control into the game. You'll be able to pull yourself to and away from enemies with your nifty grappling hook and will be able to perform a lot of unique and intricate combos.

At the time of writing this article, Red Knight Games has managed to secure $6,467 towards their $10,000 goal. There are only 10 days left though, so if you're interested in seeing this title come to fruition you should head on over and pledge what you can ASAP.
