Half-Life: Alyx review round-up: A watershed moment for VR

YOU are missing the point entirely ..... VR is an expensive, unnecessary device and building a game exclusively for it on such a popular platform is simple extortion.

NO SALE
Maybe check out Black Mesa instead on Steam. It was launched a few weeks ago, looks like it might be good.

I am probably in the minority when I say this is the game that is finally making me consider buying a VR headset.

I've borrowed a friend's before, and enjoyed it - but not "$500+ investment" enjoyed it, mostly because of the games available didn't strike my fancy and you still had a pretty strong 'screen door' effect. Now with higher resolution headsets, and a half-life game, I may just finally buy one.

Nowadays $400 gets you a Rift S, which has minimal screen door effect. I don't know what you tried but it's likely a step up from that both in specs and price.

I want to play this game but a Valve Index VR Kit

Cost $$1,319 CAD

Which is $300 less than I just spend on a whole new Ryzen x3800 build I did around Christmas.

So ya will pass for now.

Index is sold out everywhere right now anyways as are many of the other VR headsets. You can get an OG Oculus Rift though off eBay for around $300 USD. The index is the best VR headset on the market so naturally it's going to be expensive.

Yup even if you order from steam directly estimated shipping date is more than 8 weeks lol.

I would prefer to buy the best kit on the market than the Rift.

So I will wait for price to drop abit and stock to refill no rush have plenty to play while working from home due to the virus lol.

It was the Vive around 2016-2017, so one of the nicer ones back then. It was never really the price tag that scared me off, I can afford it, it was more 'that is a lot of money for an accessory that doesn't have many games that catch my interest'. Hell, I knew I was going to buy a nicer one if I did get anything, it was just games that I was waiting for. They seem to be here now.

The game is currently getting an All Reviews: Overwhelmingly Positive (10,468) with a review score of 98%. Seems that Valve knocked it out of the park, another job well done. I am glad for a game like this. I look forward to playing it soon.
