Microsoft has revealed that Halo: Spartan Assault will arrive on the Xbox One in time for Christmas – but just barely. The game, which takes place between the events of Halo 3 and Halo 4 and will be the first Halo game for the Xbox One, will launch on December 24 as a digital download and include a new co-op mode as well as some new weapons.

The top-down third-person shooter, developed by 343 Industries and Vanguard Games, was first released for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 this past July. It’ll be priced at just $14.99 when it hits the Xbox One although those that already purchased the game on another platform (or plan to do so before December 15) can snag the Xbox One version for just $4.99 later this month.

The Xbox One release will arrive with several unique features including native 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second, the Operation Hydra expansion pack, 7.1 surround sound audio support, new music and the aforementioned online cooperative mode. It’s unclear, however, if local multiplayer will be supported. New enemies and achievements will also populate the Xbox One title, we’re told.

Spartan Assault is also coming to the Xbox 360 but you’ll have to wait until January for the opportunity. It was originally slated to launch in December as well but that’s no longer the case. No word on why the 360 version was delayed, unfortunately.

Sorry but from overhead halo looks far too generic....Its hard for me to see this as anything more than a tablet minigame...
Ill keep enjoying halo 3.

Halo: Spartan Assault should be released for PC especially since the architecture in the Xbox One and PC are pretty much the same.

It is, you can buy it for Windows 8 or download the Lite version for free. Actually if you buy now the Windows 8 version you'll pay $8.00 and after you can buy the X1 version for $5 so it's cheaper to buy it now and get the X1 version latter than buy just the X1 version for $15.00
