Having a nightmare

Hi all
I'm not sure if i'm on the right forum with this problem but I'm hoping someone could please point me in the right direction.
I have recently inherited a Toshiba A10 laptop from a family member who has now moved overseas, I decided to format and reinstall XP Pro from an original disc.
After installation I have found that I cannot play dvd's or cd's (which is why I've got it for the kids), I think its something to do with the drivers?? when I go into Device manager the following items have a yellow question mark against them:

Ethernet Connection
Multimedia Audio Control
PCI Modem
Video Controller
Video Controller (VGA Compatable

I thought I would be able to connect it to the internet and do a driver search but my broadband modem is not recognised so I can't connect, I've tried to download the drivers onto my home PC then transfere them to my laptop but each time I try it apears to be the incorrect drive ?

I hope someone can help me, there may be more info you require then please ask, I need help.

Thanks in advance skcc
