  1. its been a while since ive posted here, anyway
i was looking at the new starup program database and found that ctfmon is in my starup list (if you dont know ctfmon is bad: virus or trojan). i want to remove it but when i scan it with Nortron it says its ok. i dont know if i should trust those programs that say remove it or if i just delete the file myself?

CTFMON is safe and part of the MS Office Suite.

Just confirm what Rick has said. Ctfmon.exe is safe, see HERE for info. It normally runs from C:\Windows\system32\ctfmon.exe, if it`s running from anywhere else, then it deserves further investigation.

    Use Selective startup

It's in Msconfig, just uncheck it if you don't need it running.
    I have 2 entries.

I don`t have MSoffice either and I have the ctfmon.exe file. Check where it`s running from. If it`s running from C:\windows\system32 then it`s ok.

    Regards Howard :)
