Help Windows crashing Blue Screen

I'm running windows XP and for some reason when the screen saver should kick in ie. after 15 mins idle the computer restarts with continuis blue screens all with different errors e.g. UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP or PANIC_STACK_SWITCH or SYSINTERNALS_GREAT_SITE and others but the screen doesn't stay long enough to get all the details before the computer restarts again. I can however hit the restart button and the computer seems to start fine but I think there is something seriously wrong. IE doesn't open it just flashes then its gone. Firefox works but some web pages can't open and if you click on a search result from google you get completely redirected to a random site. Downloads end impromptly after 5 secs. I've run a few virus checks with Search and Destroy with no results and then when I try to run a check with AVG antivirus but it never completes the scan in 15 mins before the computer restarts again????

Please please help I've been working on this for about 10 hours with no results.

I have had the same type of situation and it was due to corrupted memory. I am not saying this is necessarily your issue but this is a good test and it engages before the Splash Screen even loads.

Go to www.memtest.org and find the utility that you can either burn to a CD (or install on a floppy if you have a floppy drive).

1. Download MemTest and burn to a CD.

2. Go to your BIOS and place your CD/DVD drive as first bootable.

3. Reboot with the CD already in the drive. The test will take over.

4. Run for a minimum of 7 passes. There are 8 individual tests per PASS. This takes a long time but well worth it. Many people start it before going to bed and check it in the morning.

5. If you have errors you have corrupted memory that must be replaced. If you have more than one stick of memory you should run this test on each stick to determine if one or all are corrupted.

* If you begin getting errors even before your reach the 7th Pass you can stop it because you know your RAM needs to be tossed without having to go further.

Get back to us and let us know the outcome.

Can you keep the computer running long enough to zip up about 5 minidumps from the WIndows/Minidump folder and attach the Zip file to this post. Then we can narrow down the problem. Also, does the computer work in Safe Mode?
