Help with an Emachine system recovery

I have recently acquired an emachine desktop computer....I have tried to used the system recovery disk but all get is a black screen with a bunch of what looks like German writing....
I was wondering if there was a way to do a system reocvery without the disk? Please feel free to leave me a message or email me....dazymazyintoledo@aol.com
