Help with XP

I am having a problem with my usb card. I just installed a usb 2.0 PCI card but it still seems as though Windows XP is seeing 1.1. When I plug in my Mp3 player my computer acts like it doesn't want to read it. I have read that Windows SP1 or SP2 solve the issue but that is where my real problem lies. When I download either it tells me that my product key is bad. Is there another way around this? Please help...

I may be pointing out the obvious, but did you install the specific usb 2.0 drivers? Another problem may be that your old usb 1.1 was intergrated and you should disable it in device manager. As far as the mp3 player, i wouldn't know. The service pack problems i wouldn't know either, sry. I might add that i hate SP2 and uninstalled it because it made over 50% of my overall programs/games not work.
