How 2 crash & reinstall windows 98?

I am having a lot of problems with my computer. It is a Dell Pent 2 running windows 98 2nd edition. I was told I could just put my windows disk in & it would all reinstall, however this doesn't happen. I would really like to know if it would be possible for me to do this process without having to call in a technician again. I am using Avast home ed. anti virus & spy doctor spyware.I am also on broadband.

Just go into your bios and set your cd-rom to the first boot device.

Insert your Windows disk then save and exit bios and follow the on screen instructions.

reinstalling win98

Thanks 4 your help Howard. I tried it but after the reinstallation all the old stuff that I wanted to get rid of is still there. Any other suggestions?

You need to run Fdisk and delete the partition. This will remove any data on your hard drive. One you have deleted the partition you will need to create a new partition and format it before you can install Windows 98.

In order to run fidisk you need to boot up your system with the Windows 98 floppy in the floppy drive.

Look HERE for instructions on how to use fdisk.

Once you have finished deleting and creating your partition you will need to format it. Just type format C:

Once the format has completed reboot your system with the floppy disk still in the drive and follow the instructions in my earlier post on how to install Windows 98.
