My brother gave me his older Maxtor Hard Drive, the One Touch but he threw tha manual away, it gave with this "base" or plastic thing that would let the maxtor stand. And I am not sure if I am suppose to attack this hard drive with the stand. I think it is inconvenient because I bring my hard drive to different places.

Here is a Maxtor One Touch, laying down:

So here are some questions:
_1) What is the propery way to use my One Touch?
__a) I must always use it standing up with a stand?
__b) I could use it standing up, or laying down, doesn't matter even if the ____Disk's are verticle or parrallel to gravity?

_2) How do I properly turn off the External Hard Drive?
__a) Safely Remove Plug and Play?
__b) Or I could just press the off button?
__c) dont do ANYTHING ur hard drive will die, just turn off computer then ____turn off the drive?

_3) How come everytime I add and remove data, copy and paste, and I wait a few seconds to make sure the drive isn't active, I can't safely remove hardware?

4) Is it better to keep the external hard drive on all day? or turn it off after each use? what happens if I keep on turning it on and off because I keep on saving backup data every 2 hours?

Thanks, for any help I can get man.

If you copy data data to it regularly leave it on.
If you only use it once a day, just turn it on then turn it off.

Use the "Safely Remove" hardware icon,or
if it`s got a power switch use that.

It will work vertically and horizontally.

Don`t bang it,or submerse it in boiling acid.

Manual HERE

standing in upright keeps it cooler
heat is drive enemy
these drives are in very cheap cases and are not cooled very well
bring a small fan with you
