First, no I'm not going to install the latest Firefox. Resource hog, slow, per all accounts.

So - have repeatedly tried to most referred to fix of typing about:config in the address bar but can never find the "searchkeys.disable.all" I'm supposed to toggle off.

Have also gone into the tools options etc etc numerous times and the thing I'm supposed to turn off is already off.

If I didn't dislike IE so much I'd crap can Firefox just because of this!

Appreciate any permanent fixes!!

EDIT: Just found and did the about:config "accessibility.typeheadfind.flash bar" reset to value of 1,
did not work.

Then typed about 2 pages on Facebook and when I forgot and tried to type an apostrophe, the whole thing just disappeared.
REALLY disgusted!

Next suggestion?

Thanks for that link.

In general I have little problems with Firefox but that one has caused me a great deal of frustration
over a fairly long period of time due to the difficulty making any of the proposed solutions work on
a permanent basis.

After trying the last one I referred to and finding it didn't stop that, I shut down and restarted.
So far it hasn't resurfaced.

That's happened before on a number of occasions where it goes away for awhile but then comes back.
I'm hopeful (again) I've gotten rid of it permanently.

Thanks again!

EDIT: Well, it's back. Seems to surface intermittently.
