How to Replace the Battery in a DualShock 4 Controller

As fun as I'd personally find doing this, I can also certainly see this as a reason why MS has stuck with supporting the user choice of AA batteries or rechargeable packs in their wireless controllers.
Yeah agreed. What happened to the days of battery packs? Manufacturers have gotten too greedy with their planned obsolescence. They make it harder to do simple fixes like this one so you'll just go buy a new controller/phone/whatever. Not only is it greedy, but it's also wasteful and bad for the environment. That's why I thought a guide would be handy for some folks who might not have realized it was so easy to replace.

My next project is repairing the analog sticks on one of my DualShock 3. The spring in the left stick is almost dead and the right stick is getting sticky.

Funny you folks posted this. My OG PS4 controllers (launch day 2013) just got overhauled. Did batteries and control sticks on them as the rubber was peeling / worn out. Now there in tip-top shape!

Yeah, compared to sealed batteries in everything else you'd think MS is stuck in the Stone Age by supporting AA batteries that I can swap out and in at will. We have 3x XBone controllers in the house for PC gaming and AA support is a key feature for us.

And yet if you browse twitter and reddit MS is "behind the times" and "cheap" for not soldering in an internal battery... *facepalm*

I am so glad that Microsoft are keeping the batteries on the Xbox user replaceable. I've got two for my PC so I could rotate them on charge or just have a spare AAs in store for instant recharge.

Would this new batterys support using wall fast chargers? I fried my ds4 battery, didnt know it couldnt support it.
