Just got a new smartphone today and no longer need the G band on my router. Would like to speed everything up in the house. I know the 192...whatever to get into the router, but how do I change it safely so I don't lose internet

Typically it's 192.168.1.1, under wireless settings or advance wireless settings. Make the change, apply the new setting. Might lose connectivity to the router briefly as it switches to N only mode. But it is a fairly straight forward process. I've changed my modem/router combo from b & g to g only, didn't have any problem.

go to your adapter in "network connections" right-click properties and go to "configure". There is usually a setting for the bands you want to run.

truly unnecessary - - ALL devices will connect in the mode they are capable of
and if you go to N-Only, some device that is B/G only will then fail to connect.

K.I.S.S. ::- keep it simple and stupid
