HP DV6911om setup can't find hdd

HELP ME!!!! I am trying to install win xp on laptop, came with vista (yuck), error message says setup can't find hdd. Can't change anything in Bios, can reinstall Vista but why would you want too?
If anyone has anything I could try I would appreciate it.
I have tried:
Sata drivers on a (usb) floppy, repair installs, reinstalls and 4 different brands of HDD.
Shall I just shoot it? or ebay it?

After endless hours...... Heres what worked for me:



You must have a usb floppy for this to work.


Go to this website:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...softwareitem=ob-54270-1&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

Download the driver at the bottom of the page and extract it to a floppy. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp37001-37500/sp37005.exe

insert the win xp cd and press F6 to load sata driver,
CHOOSE THIS ONE:


"Intel 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH8M-E/M)"

It loaded for me. and windows Xp is up and running.... it only took me 3 days to figure it out after slipstreaming 36 cd's (apparently not my thing, non of them worked.)

Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager (Driver)

I've attached the "F6" (Windows Setup) required Intel driver.
So as others can put it on floppy or USB or CD\DVD

Choosing F6 (during Windows Setup)
Then placing your extracted drivers (located on Floppy or USB or CD) will show the following:

- Intel(R) 82801IR/IO SATA AHCI Controller (Desktop ICH9R)
- Intel(R) 82801HEM SATA RAID Controller (Mobile ICH8M-E)
- Intel(R) 82801HEM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH8M-E) <= you chose this one
- Intel(R) 82801HBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH8M)
- Intel(R) 82801HR/HH/HO SATA RAID Controller (Desktop ICH8R)
- Intel(R) 82801HR/HH/HO SATA AHCI Controller (Desktop ICH8R)
- Intel(R) 631xESB/632xESB SATA RAID Controller (Workstation ESB2)
- Intel(R) 82801GHM SATA RAID Controller (Mobile ICH7RM)
- Intel(R) 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH7M)
- Intel(R) 82801GR/GH SATA RAID Controller (Desktop ICH7R/DH)
- Intel(R) 82801GR/GH SATA AHCI Controller (Desktop ICH7R/DH)

Highlight the selection that is appropriate for the
hardware in your system and press Enter.
