I need help cloning a hard drive..

i got a notebook and i bought a new hd for it ... so the computer wont recognize the hd ,so i got the usb, ide adapter to connect hds and all of that, to my usb port... so i wanted to clone my desktop hd to my notebook hd.. to see if the notebook reads it.. can i do that or any other ideas, in how to make the notebook recognize the empty hd.. ? i cant access the bios of the notebook .. because it has a password..

when i try turning on the computer , the bios gets shadowed ...what does that mean?

You can use something like Acronis to clone the image. However, it's much more wise to clone from your old drive. as the hardware drivers for your laptop (likely fickle) will be missing from your desktop build.

so what u suggest me.. to fix this problem .. because i cant access the hd and the bios get shadowed..? the hd in the laptop is new..
