Hi,
I have a compaq computer. I want to upgrade its ram ( currently 256 MB 133 MHZ manufacturer Micron tech) to 1 GB . I have only one slot left on the motherboard. so can I get a 768 MB in single chip. I have another doubt can I use any other manufactuer's chip and with higer speed like 333 hz along with my existing which is 133 Hz ?.

thanks in advance

SKumar

You cannot get 768mb on a single Dimm, your best chance is to get 2 512mb's.

Check the manual for the model you have, but it is SDRam and that only went up to 166mhz. However DDRam will go to 333. But if you have 133 installed then the motherboard will not support DDR Ram

Can I put one single 1 gb MB module

hi,

thanks for ur reply

Can I put one single 1 gb MB module? And how to know whether my motherbnoard supports DDR ram?.. pls advise..

thanks
Skumar

You will have to get the make and model number of the motherboard. Go to the makers website and check the specifications for your board. It will tell you the type of ram supported and the max amount the board can support.

are you referring to the cpu speed? If so- that computer is so ancient it isn't worth upgrading!

if you're referring to memory, then 512mb should be sufficient.
