In an effort to boost online gaming, IBM and startup Butterfly.net have inked an agreement with the company to provide networking services and technical resources to developers writing games for the PS2.

The new online gaming network, based on grid technology , will be unveiled next week at the Game Developer's Conference in San Jose, California. It will allow developers to engineer games directly onto a grid and will make it easier for them to support online gamers.
Grids consist of clusters of servers linked together over the Internet. They use open source protocols and technologies to allow organizations to share applications, data and computing power.
