I was wondering if anybody had any ideas on what they think the best way to get images of drives onto a central repository is. If you have a solution right now that you use frequently and are satisfied with, please share.

Here is our situation:

We do lots of PC builds and they're all customized. These builds include all types of different drives such as IDE, SATA, laptop drives, etc. We would like a solution to be able to plop a drive in somewhere and start a imaging process and eventually we would like to store these onto multiple external 500GB drives.

They keys are simplicity and speed.

Any help would be much appreciated.

google for Ghost.

build one image with ALL the drivers your intend to use, image it and save to an archive.

later reverse the flow from Archive --> new target disk

Acronis........?

Is Norton's "Ghost" the best of the breed in drive imaging tools? Could you brief us about any of the others?

we used it commercially but did not attempt a Consumer's Report exhaustive study on the subject :)
