Installing a dvd rom

I have this other dvd rom, it works in my moms pc but it wont in mine, Do dvd roms usually come with software if so can that be the problem. I beleve my motherboard recognizes at start up but ask for a boot file or something, any ideas?

If these are IDE (PATA) optical drives, you might have overlooked setting the jumpers on the back of the drives correctly.

Yes it seems teh slave and master pin thing was in the wrong place, cos it wasnt even recognizing my hardrive. Thanks for the help
