Installing a SATA drive

if i install a SATA hard drive could i use the drivers on a floppy which i used to install a one on another what i mean is, is the drivers for a motherboard to detect a SATA drive compatible to detect it for any other motherboard or do i have to have the drivers from the chipset disc for that motherboard and put them onto floppy to format a SATA hard drive

im guessing you should use the sata drivers that are compatible with your motherboard because the onboard sata controllers might be different
