Installing SATA DVD

I am replacing a non-working DVD with a newer SATA DVD. I suspect I need to change the RAID settings to get the computer to recognize the new DVD drive but would like to know which setting I should go to without messing things up. Currently have a PATA driven DVD in another slot. Can I go PATA in one slot and SATA in another?

if you have an open sata slot you should be able to connect the drive with no problems.
