Intermittent connection

I have a computer that continuously looses its connection. There are 6 computers on this network and this single computer has a ballon that comes up every minute or 2 that says "connected 100mbps" or something like that. It is an emachines t2283 (I think). The onboard NIC died and I added a D-link NIC card. It just continuously drops. Is this a software issue? or a hardware issue?

It could be a bad cable or loose connection at one of the sockets. Also make sure the bad NIC is disabled in Device Manager or the BIOS.
