We’re less than a day away from Apple’s scheduled media event in Cupertino and analysts are weighing in on what they expect to see tomorrow and through the rest of the year.
In his latest report, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes we will indeed see the arrival of the iPad Air 2 although supplies may be limited through the end of the year as poor yield rates of anti-reflective coating cover lens delayed mass production.
Specifically, Kuo expects shipments of the Air 2 to top out around 7-9 million units, down from the 12 million iPad Air units shipped last year.
All things considered, Kuo believes the market will be more interested in the iPad Air 2 and that a significant update to the iPad mini isn’t likely. Furthermore, Kuo notes the iPad mini is getting less attention from Apple as they are focusing on a larger 12.9-inch iPad.
Elsewhere, Kuo expects Apple to showcase a new 27-inch Retina Display iMac tomorrow with shipments to begin by the end of the year. A 21-inch variant isn’t expected to arrive until sometime during the second half of 2015. Kuo said difficulties in developing two different sized high resolution panels at the same time is why we won’t see both machines launch simultaneously.
The analyst doesn’t think we’ll see a MacBook Air refresh on Thursday as Apple is waiting on Intel’s Broadwell chips.
