ok heres the think my ipod would not recognize in itunes so i tinkered with it until i used computer management to format it to unallocated space... after that i got my norton ghost and started to format it back to FAT 32.... but it says that its disk write protected.... is it even possible to fix this....?

it doesent even recongnize in explorer any more only program that does is a HP USB disk formatter but the real problem is the Disk write protection... is there a way to turn it off?

You should have used the iPod restore application before formating, actually you're not supposed to format it at all. If it's still under warranty you could try sending it back as I don't think you'll be able to reset it yourself.

i got it to recognize in explorer again but now it acts like removable storage instead of a disk drive... so now im gonna use a 3rd party to see if i can rebuld the directory
