Laptop hanging after choosing 1: C:\WINDOWS in Recovery Console

Hi all
Would really really appreciate some help on this matter. Got the \system32\config\system error on my Dell Inspiron 1300 laptop and installed OS disk Dell sent me and pressed R and got 2 options

1: C:\WINDOWS
2: E:\minint
which windows installation would you like to log onto
to cancel, press ENTER?

so i typed 1 which appeared and hit Enter and nothing happens ????
Any thoughts much appreciated

You mean your system just freezes up?
It can be faulty Ram or a faulty HardDrive (hardware wise)
Start by running a >> Memtest on your Ram
