Inactive Link Redirecting Virus

Hello,

Today I think a virus tried to infect my system (Windows Vista) through a brower (Internet Explorer) exploit. My computer froze up for a little while then after it starting running normally a window appeared on my computer asking me if I approve for Update.exe , I denied this request as I was suspicious of it.

After this encounter everything seemed fine. Until I started browsing the internet. Every time I wanted to go to a website it would redirect me to some other website that had nothing to do with what I wanted. I then realized that perhaps I am infected.

My anti-virus program, AVG, fully updated, did not report any viral infection. When I did a full system scan I did not find anything. Well, I found some stuff, but it was not really malicious. I just had some hex-decimal editing program that it listed as "suspicious",. but other than that, the scan was fine.

Furthermore, my computer is running perfectly. There are no problems with it at all. No sense of any kind of infection.

However, my internet browser is messed up. Whenever I tried to use it, either it redirects me, or else it crashes (which is what was recently happening, it for some reason stopped redirecting and now crashes IE when I want to go somewhere).

My theory is that this infection failed to infect my computer as my high security settings blocked it from entering, however, IE was vulnerable and so only IE is infected while my computer is running fine.

What do I do? Should I uninstall IE and reinstall it again? This virus does not seem to be a very big threat at all, however, still I want to get rid of it.

Now, on to the problem- a little different slant on what's happening regarding the redirect: You launch the browser to access the internet. The browser has a search box to help you find a site. Most of us use Google, but the name of the search engine isn't important. You may either put a word or 2 in the search box, then choose a site from the selection that comes up.

Or you may use a Favorite or other shortcut to access a page or site on the internet. But you don't get what you requested> you get some other site, possibly one that has the word 'ad' or 'search' in it. So it's not actually the browser itself, but rather the 'search' that is resulting in the redirect.

Many to most malware can cause the redirects. A clean virus scan isn't enough. There is other malware than viruses. To find and hopefully remove what it is, we ask you to begin with the following:

Hello,

I ran Panda ActiveScan 2.0 today, after like 2 or 3 hours it did not find anything. It found like 109 infections but they were all in the temp internet folder. In other words, it just found cookies. It found some Hacks, but they were under Java Sun Microsystem, so it is probably just alarming.

I guess this means that my PC is not infected.

Do you want to see my log report? There is nothing really interested in it. So I guess it is not necessary.

(By the way, how do I post a log report that it looks like a NotePad document, what kind of code do I use in VB to make it come out that way).

Anyone have any other suggestions? Because now I will move on to Step 2 in the instructions.

Actually, today AVG announced "Threat Detected!" when I loaded Internet Explorer.

The Trojan Horse was in C:\USERS\AppData\Local\6p76g.dll

I guess the Trojan Redirector is this dll. How do I remove this dll from my computer safely? Notice, that Panda detected this dll in the scan above if you read my log report that I posted above.

If I can get rid of this dll file then does this mean the Trojan has been eliminated? I tried to access it but it seems to be hidden, even when I said I wanted to access it with visisble hidden files, it still does not come up.

I did not ask for the Panda scan or the log. We go about malware cleaning in an organized way and that does not include running random programs of your choice.

Here is my MalwareBytes Log File. I wanted to say that my internet browser is now working perfectly fine after I located the file with Panda and deleted it with AVG. However, in the middle of my MalwareBytes scan AVG gave me an automatic Trojan Horse warning located in C:\Users\A\AppData\Local\yrt.exe , I am not sure what that was about. Please download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop.

Important!***Please close any instances of Internet Explorer before continuing!***

• Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
• From the drop-down menu, choose English and click on Select.
• JavaRa will open; click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
• Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that
  a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
• A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location.

Then download and install then most current version and update of Java Runtime
Environment (JRE) HERE.

6. .If Combofix asks you to update the program, allow
7. .Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

   & follow the prompts to run.
10. When the scan completes , a report will be generated-it will open a text window. Please paste the C:\ComboFix.txt in next reply..

Re-enable your Antivirus software.
Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you -- please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
