Might I ask which method you finally were able to use? Or what did you do to fix it?
As for getting online, we need more details. You are obviously online right now posting your message. So you mean to say you are online with another PC close by or somewhere else?
Anyhow, to be online you need an ISP, or Internet Service Provider, such as dialup (AOL,MSN,Earthlink,PeoplePC etc...) or broadband (Cable,DSL,Satellite etc...). Once you have an ISP, you can get online.
If you ARE online with another PC but just not this one, then you have a couple options:
To have more then one PC on at the SAME TIME, you need a router for broadband connections. For dialup, it is more difficult, using Internet Connection Sharing through Windows. But that is a pain and the 2 PCs would be incredibly slow.
The short answer is, to get your one PC online, find an ISP, preferably broadband cable or DSL, they will hook you up.
For 2 PCs or more, you need a router or ICS.
Hope that is what you were looking for, otherwise give some more details.
