Might I ask which method you finally were able to use? Or what did you do to fix it?

As for getting online, we need more details. You are obviously online right now posting your message. So you mean to say you are online with another PC close by or somewhere else?

Anyhow, to be online you need an ISP, or Internet Service Provider, such as dialup (AOL,MSN,Earthlink,PeoplePC etc...) or broadband (Cable,DSL,Satellite etc...). Once you have an ISP, you can get online.

If you ARE online with another PC but just not this one, then you have a couple options:
To have more then one PC on at the SAME TIME, you need a router for broadband connections. For dialup, it is more difficult, using Internet Connection Sharing through Windows. But that is a pain and the 2 PCs would be incredibly slow.

The short answer is, to get your one PC online, find an ISP, preferably broadband cable or DSL, they will hook you up.
For 2 PCs or more, you need a router or ICS.

Hope that is what you were looking for, otherwise give some more details.

re:

i can't believe how easy it was after all i had tried before. all i did was lookup a copy of the users manual online and figure out how to get the computer to run from the cd drive. than i bought a $3 cd off ebay that erased the passwords. and it was fixed. as for the internet connection part, yes i have a desktop that i am working from now and was all along while trying to get the laptop going. i have my internet service with peoplepc right now. the laptop had at&t service from the guy who had it before me but we don't have that here. i want to setup my service on it but have no idea how to do that. hope you understand what i mean.

If you want to just install PeoplePC on the laptop, that is easy enough. Go onto the PPC web site and "download a copy" of their software. Burn it to a disk and copy it and install it on the other one. Or go to a local Best Buy or some computer place, they will likely have PPC CDs for free you can just grab one to use.

If you want both PCs online at the SAME time through the SAME connection, that is more of an issue. For that you need to get both PCs connected over LAN and setup Internet Connection Sharing. But I advise against that. With both PCs sharing a dialup, neither of you will get anyplace online.

The best option is to think about getting on high-speed cable or DSL, then get a router so the two can be on 50 times faster then dialup. And you can have even more then the 2 PCs on at once.

Password problems, too

Can you tell me who you bought that disc from and what it's called or if you want to sell yours? I have XP Home Edition and can't get into my pc either. Do you know if the disc works with XP Home?

Any help would be great! Thanks.

No need to pay for it, there is software available for free that works.

I forgot my password to an old Xp machine and used this software, it works and is easy to use. You have burn the iso image to a cd and boot your pc from the cd.

"works with NT 3.51, NT 4, Windows 2000 (except datacenter), Windows XP (all versions) and Window Server 2003"
