Ok I've been thinking. Can you put an 8800 in a mac pro. And then run games under boot camp. So you can play on XP or Vista. BTW 8 core mac pros!!!!!

I was thinking about that earlier today too. It is almost a moot question though because the people in the need for that computer won't game with it.

The problem you might run into is the power consumption, the stock PSU might not be able to handle the load of an 8800 or 2. It is likely a propritary power supply too, now whether or not you can splice wires together to make a normal PSU work I'm not sure. But I think that power would be the most significant concern. Drivers would be the next.

Power won't be an issue on a mac pro. They supply up to 300W just for graphics cards.
300W combined maximum for all PCI Express slots

Yes it is proprietary, and I don't know of any aftermarket replacement, but it's a pretty hardcore power supply, so it won't be a problem. An 8800 will work in windows(boot camp) on the mac pro, but it won't work in the mac os. In windows, just use regular windows drivers like any other xp/vista system.

Edit: forgot to mention, you'll need this cable to connect the mac pro motherboard to the pci-e power connector.

It adapts a mac pro motherboard power connector to the 6 pin pci-e power connector, which is a standard used on many newer high end cards.
Note on a 8800gtx, you'd need two of the said adapters, but on a 8800gts you'd need one.
Here's a link to some more info.

He basically hacked a power cable together(which didn't work), but eventually recommends buying the power cable I linked to. He's using a x1900 card, but it has the same power connector as a 8800.
