Meet the Nintendo Switch: Here's a preview of Nintendo's console for 2017

If it's more powerful than PS4 and Xbox as previous information has suggested I'd be really surprised if that performance is maintained in "tablet" mode...
It doesn't need to be that powerful in handheld mode. If it was, that would sound the death knell for both Sony and Microsoft, and that doesn't seem remotely likely. What it needs to be able to do is to maintain a level of graphical fidelity and fluidity that keeps players from noticing a jarring discrepancy in visual quality when connecting to or disconnecting from the dock.
THAT'S what I was wondering .....

AAA batteries in each half of the controller??? I hate wireless peripheries.
Also behold Nintendo continuing with WiiU graphics in the Scorpio and PS4 Pro era. Apparently Nintendo players aren't allowed to have even decent graphics. Well they're stuck with cartoon games anyway so they wont mind.

well it doesn't have any smartphone functionality so it might be you who is on the magic mushrooms(please share). I've also been waiting a very long time to have something to replace my 3DS. I do lots of outdoors stuff so if I'm stuck in the tent for a day or two while it rains this will be great. Especially since it seems to have multiplayer functionality making it idle If me and my friends are stuck in camp for a few days. I assume think it is low power enough that we can run it off our camps AGM battery or my camping battery pack.
it's not small enough for you to casually carry around and it's certainly not as cheap as a 3DS.
and what does smartphone "functionality" have to do with anything? I was talking about people gaming on smartphones (which is a freaking huge market).

I'm mostly excited about the cartridge. Will we be able to play such games like GTA V without loading time. Thing like that.

They must be on some magic shrooms if they think people will replace their smartphones or even they 3DS with something that bulky to carry around.
loose the screen and make it 30% cheaper and they'll have a winner if it has games.
I don't think the people who buy this will get rid of their phones. I haven't heard from Nintendo that this was supposed to replace phones. They are two completely different markets, even in terms of games you can play on them. It's also a console.

This looks like it will be used more like how people use tablets around the house. I could see myself putting it in my book bag so that my cousin's kids could play it. One of the kids really like NBA 2K. I could easily see him taking it off the TV mode, and taking it to his bed to lay down and play. Or continuing his game in the back seat of the car when he has to go out with his parents.

I doubt that they'll be little more than just proprietary SD cards. you'll definitely still have loading times.
I hope not. But from what I've read, Nintendo 3ds cartridge can hold up to 8gb of memory, using something like 75nm Rom chips. The company that makes the 3DS Roms is supposedly also going to make the Rom for the NX and it's going to be 32nm. Using Rom at the moment is very cheap, and it will cut cost on the system, and hopefully in the future you can add additional functionality like the FX chip. So I really hope they don't use flash memory.

Games on smartphones are so stupid that that isn't even a market segment Nintendo is really aiming form. I understand that might be just me, but I'm almost always carrying a bag with a camera and a lens or two in it. I could throw it in there. I'm also not talking about carrying it everywhere with me everyday. I use my DS mostly at home in my bed as I'm watching something on Netflix or YouTube. I can think of plenty of families that would love to be able to watch their favorite TV shows let their kids play their games. After they're done with the TV, the kids hook the console back up.

I can understand that you might not like this, but to say you don't like it so it's a bad fit for everyone is just absurd. This is a great fit for me and for many of my friends families. If it's priced right I could see my throwing this in my camera bag to give the kids something to do while I'm baby sitting. This isn't targeting smartphone gaming, this is suppose to be a portable device that does serious gaming but also has the ability to be a dedicated console.

In a world full of high performance tablets and smartphones (with Sony already letting you play PS4 remotely on their phones) is this really a good direction to go in? If it's more powerful than PS4 and Xbox as previous information has suggested I'd be really surprised if that performance is maintained in "tablet" mode as that's a fairly slim package to cram hardware in to compete with the AMD graphics in the other consoles. Really not sure about this concept as a selling point. I think they should have just stuck to putting out more powerful hardware for 4k+.

Sorry no way a mobile soc, even as impressive as it is, will be outperforming current gen hardware on the ps4 and xbone with their much larger power envelope. It is expected to be the current most powerful mobile chip but will still be behind the xbone. The console/tablet is expected to have passive cooling which means that even though it can be hooked up to the dock and have access to more power it will be far less that what the xbone uses.

I don't see any reason they couldn't have a discrete cpu in the dock with live disconnect. It would be similar to what the surface book does.

I guess thats a possibility but it would be with a gpu not cpu. This would really raise the price of the console though.I dont see nintendo doing something like this but well see.

It looks pretty damn interesting to me. The only things I would like to know now, is the hardware specs and if they are implementing a better way of communicating with friends (Like steam chat, ect) as thats been way overdue.

I think this was a smart move. I mean the DS is their most sold and used gaming device. It makes sense to take the boundaries away from their console as well.

No additional cpu / gpu n the dock, ( from neogaf) just tv out and maybe power. btw the logo is... terrible, tone that sht down, ITS tacky n HUGE!

If Nintendo allow you to stream PC games to it via an nvidia card then My interest in purchasing one of these things would shoot up. But let's face it, Nintendo aren't going to give us that now are they!
