Modem working at wong speed

I have just formated my hard drive and instaled windows xp and service pack2 now my modem will only work at 32.1 kbps how can i make it faster? I have tryed uninstalling it and letting windows find it and also installing it from the oem disc. The modem is a speedcom+ intel 56k fax modem.

I bet the modem is running in the fastest mode that XP thinks is reliable. Faster speeds oftentimes results in more frequent drops.

Did you check the speedcom website for an updated driver?
