Mp3 player problem

Sorry if this is the wrong forum. For a while now, (about a week) my mp3 player has been playing but the sound comes out of the player itself, even when the earbuds are plugged in. (Which is how I listen to it) How can I listen to it with the earbuds working, and the music only coming through that way unless I choose otherwise? If it helps in knowing, I got it on Aug. 14, 2009.

Emerson 4GB That's pretty much all that it says. It does also say EFC on it, which I have no idea what that means.
