An oldie but a nasty... MyDoom recently surfaced on my pc. McAfee has no problem finding and deleting it; but within a few hours, it's back. I don't open attachments to emails and I only go to trusted 'net sites (like my bank, etc).

Question: Can this virus replicate itself after being deteted? If so, how the heck do I permanently get rid of it?

(I've already tried Stinger, AdAware, MSN's Beta Malware dohicky, and of course, McAfee's antivirus program.)

Thanks,
Red

Boot into safe mode. See how HERE. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial61.html

Turn off system restore.(XP/ME only) See how HERE. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial56.html

It`s probably hiding in system restore, that`s why it`s important to turn off system restore, which will delete all your restore points and anything nasty that`s lurking in them.

Then run your virus scanners again. Hopefully this will get rid of it.

I also suggest you go HERE and follow the instructions in the order they are given.

Post a fresh HJT log, only after doing the above.

Regards Howard :)
