Need help installing Linux on second computer

oh here we go, i somehow got it to work, i pushed esc and it changed the tab or something idk but its going now lol, ill update when i get working

leeky im on the desktop and its working find etc, how do i install it so it stays on HD and i dont have to keep putting the cd back in?

I'll need to have a look mate. Is this puppy linux?

I'm going to be slow to reply I'm afraid; Some nice soul managed to gain access to my server last night, and I'm rather pre-occupied finding said exploit, and then resolving it I'm afraid!

I should be done by this evening and ready to continue though. Sorry for the delay.

oh neat you have a server? :D

sucks someone got through D: and yeah, its linux puppy, i just want to know how to install it to c drive so i dont have to keep using the cd

okay this is really strange, now i booted up today on it i have no desktop, like its just a black desktop with nothing on it, i can still acess the taskbar / start menu but no icons or desktop D:

That's just plain confusing. lol. Is it doing it every single time you reboot now?

k, idk what i did but the desktop is showing now, how do i install linux puppy to my computer now?

also would you know why the internet is not working? i have an ethernet cable hooked up to it, is there settings i have to change?

It probably hasn't recognised your network card. I'd need to know what make and model it is to help further with that though.

As for installing Puppy, it looks to be a bit complicated to be honest. If you feel up to the task, I would strongly recommend having a good read here: http://www.brighthub.com/computing/linux/articles/20504.aspx

And here: http://www.ehow.com/how_5063994_install-puppy-linux-hard-drive.html

Googling "installing puppy linux" brings up further results too. :)

P.S. I think your PC has its own personality! :D :D

haha, im installing it now, it had some other options like paritioning it but i choose the other option and the other option besides .vdf , lol i wasnt really paying attention but we will see where it goes, and how do i make linux detect the NIC? is there a device manager type thing for linux?

Its possible once its up and running (when your PC feels like it!) it will work.

If not, I'm sure we can configure it to work.

Do you connect to a DSL modem, or to a router?

So by hub, do you mean network switch, or router?

Whether or not your network card automatically gets its IP via DHCP or not makes a difference.

Its good to hear you've not given up on it :)

Let me know the problems when you next look as I might be able to offer soem help.
