Need help with Sims 2

Hey guys, i just installed Sims 2. My computer meets the minimum requirements, i have direct x, and all updated drivers. However, when the game starts the i get this error message, which isn't even a message. Its just an "X". Anyone no wats up? Thanks in advance

Have you checked for any patches / updates for Sims 2 on EA's site ( or The Sims website, don't know which it would be on )
