hey i have decided that i need to reformat my computer because whenever i right click it tries to install an "update" for symantic antivirus that doesnt go anywhere but the problem is i dont have the recovery disks i have the ones for my old laptop that has windows xp on it but their not of the same manufactorer the laptop is by compact and the desktop is asus any help would be apperciated

To Format XP you need an xp cd disk to boot computer with and install XP.
You can't Format the OS drive in My Computer, just other partitions.
Even if you could somehow you would have no OS.
Just a blank Hard drive.
Who installed what you have now.Did you buy a PC with no disc ?
Try to find an OEM version,Their cheaper.

BTW,uninstall Symantic.Theres lots of free ways for what it's just "messing
UP"

There may be no need for you to reformat at all.

Download this Symantec/Norton removal tool.

Download one of the following free AV and firewall programmes.

AVG free or Avast antivirus programmes.

Zonealarm Kerio or Comodo free firewall programmes.

Disconnect from the net and run the Symantec/Norton removal tool.

Install whichever Firewall programme you chose and reconnect to the net.

Install whichever AV programme you chose and run the AV updates.

Regards Howard :)
