Netflix comes to Canada for $7.99 per month, no mail service

Netflix has announced its expansion into Canada (English only for now, French is on its way), the first country to get the service outside of the United States. Netflix.ca is now live, offering unlimited streaming for $7.99 CAD per month. The price is so low because it only includes online streaming, meaning you cannot get DVD or Blu-Ray discs in the mail.

Online streaming equates to a huge library of titles, including thousands of TV shows and movies: feature films, popular TV series, independent cinema, documentaries, foreign language movies, and kids' programming. Still, the selection appears to be a slightly different than in the US. Netflix has Canadian license agreements with major motion picture studios such as Lionsgate, MGM Studios, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox, and Universal Pictures, as well as leading Canadian distributors Alliance Films, Maple Pictures, eOne, and Mongrel.

Canadians can now stream Netflix on their supported set-top box, HDTV, desktop, laptop, and Blu-ray player (from Samsung or Toshiba), iPhone/iPod/iPad, Playstation 3, and Nintendo Wii. Support for the Xbox 360, Internet TVs from Samsung, the Apple TV, and and Blu-ray players from Vizio and Insignia is coming later this fall. Netflix Canada is offering a one-month free trial of the service, so there really isn't much reason not to give it a shot.

It is worth trying it for the free month. I have it and pretty much only use the instant and I really enjoy it.

Already signed up, amount of content looks pretty good. My only complain would be that the 360 isn't ready to go yet.

Netflix canada is pretty lame i've signed up and so far i've been able to watch 31mins of one pick, and my first 5 searches showed as "Not Avaialable" (unless ur in the U.S) for some reason so i'm stuck watching very old movies that i've seen long ago. I wouldn't think blockbuster is in any real danger yet in canada, not with netflix's selection.

I'm still searching for movies i want to watch but not one is available.

The new arrivals are some really lame straight to video releases that they think will entice you to keep paying 7.99 once your free trial runs out.

I'd say if netflix wants to take market share in canada from blockbuster it's simple, make movies that are already out and available to U.S customers available to all who pay and use netflix. I mean we as canadians have already seen the new realeases im searching for at the the box office.

All in all i've found a couple movies i'll watch but i wont use the recommendations they give because they all suck.

I do like the 30 day free trial though i'll just wait out my 30 days to see if they start letting us watch some movies that had a theatrical release.
