Network.http.pipelining for Firefox on dial-up ?

I have been reading, on various sites, the benefits of changing "network.http.pipelining" settings in Firefox. They said it would increase your browsing speed.

However, they also said that the changes only work on high-speed Internet connections, and should not be used for dial-up speeds/connections.

Does making any changes to any "network.http.pipelining" setting in FF actually speed up browsing for dial-up modem connections? Or are they only for high-speed connections?

Also what about "nglayout.initialpaint.delay = 0"? I have not found anything on this parameter change.

Thanks for any clarification on this.

Scott
