New GC

I take it that this discussion is over? Anything else I should know before I commit?

What exactly were you trying to prove with that last post? The link you gave shows that the 6800 ultra and 6600GT gave incredible performance on Doom III. They also school the ATI cards in Chronicles of Riddick, Pacific Fighters, and The Sims 2. They nearly tied the ATI cards in Unreal Tournament. Granted the ATI cards win Half-Life 2, but that is only one game out of the 6 that are there. Considering that the 6000 series of cards is much cheaper than the X800 series, I think you just proved my point for me. Thanks! Also this chart doesn't have the 7800GS on it. Dont try telling that PCmark is a valid test. It may be a good benchmarking program, but it doesn't corrolate to games very well.

Nvidia has been better at openGL, ATi has is better at direct3D. ATi's new drivers are much better than the ones used in that old chart. Doom3 is openGL. If linux is your thing Nvidia is the best choice. I though that chart was very good toward ATi, most of the time top three were ATi cards. Even the FX5950xt out did the 6800ultra once-in a Half Life2, a drectx game I think. :slurp:

the Geforce cards smash them everywhere else.
Even Doom3 is less than smashig.

The 6800GS is a really good card. If possible, don't get an ATI card. They don't have the best features, and their performance isn't as great per dollar. The 6800GS is best, and then the 6800XT. Good Luck.
The visual quality on ATI cards PWNS nvidia tho...

Granted it is fast, but the 6800GT is muc better. And even though I don't agree with you about ATI vs Nvidia, lets not start a war over that right now. Are you sure that you can't afford a 7800 AGP. They are really good.

Damnit, i like wars

Actually, this kind of discussion is good. At least for me :D

Clears things up, and for people who follow, its a treasure trove of information.

Okay, just FYI, I have bought the Sapphire X800XT.

I've spent more or less the whole day fiddling with it, and will post my results here.

Some basics:
This card comes clocked at 500/500. I'm surprised it comes at this low clock, since I think I read somewhere that Gigabyte's clock at 525, but I can't seem to find that article again to verify it.

My PC:
P4 2.8Ghz (fitted with Tt golf 325 (?) and Tt UFO)
2 x 512gb PC2700 RAM Kingston (can't be sure exactly which model)
Gigabyte GA8IPE1000
Sapphire X800XT

The rest shouldn't really matter should it? Anyway, didn't change much from the data entered on my details (haven't updated to the X800XT yet), so check it out there.

Also added a 67CFM 120mm fan.

Overclocking:

I did some overclocking, and ran PCMark 2005.
PCMark settings: 4xAA 4xAF 1024x768 3xrepeat(averaged) all tests except CPU tests to save time.

Results:
<Changes>: <Max GPU Temp> <PCMark score>
No OC: 71 4394
P4 3.3Ghz, 534/507: 72 5025
P4 3.3Ghz, 549/516: 76 5000

To me, those results are weird. I have this very bad feeling I'm being bottlenecked by my CPU. I will edit this posting after boosting my CPU again.

p.s. RAM frequency not locked.

I like wars too! In fact, I plan on becoming an Officer in the US Army when I graduate from college. But I don't really feel like prolonging this conversation. He already got a card anyway.

I have a x800gto, It will only do 470/570. At that clock It does 5048 in 3dMark05 with my rig:

Asus P5P800
540 DO at 3.8 ghz
2x512 pqiPOWER 2.5-3-3-7 5:4

I did get alot more out of my cards memory, but it's4 pipe lines short of your XT. More CPU would help you. That's not 800mhz FSP p4 you have?

Good luck in the Army, Sir. God bless you.

Thanks Mirob. That actually means a lot to me. I've been told by a lot of people that if I join the army they will think of me as a murderer. But I know that I will be preventing people from murdering them. Thank you for supporting the army. Thanks again. And I admit it, ATI is a good company, SOME OF THE TIME! See yah!

PS. It's also nice to see other Christians around this forum. I was begining to feel lonely. God Bless You.

I'm back with more results.

Okay, more info about my RAM:
Yes, it is an 800mhz m/b, unfortunately its been marred greatly by my RAM.
PC2700, timings: 2.5-4-4-8

I found out that the max my CPU can go is 3.36ghz. RAM goes to 374mhz. Not sure which is stopping my clock speed now, the CPU or RAM. I'm betting on the RAM, since upping CPU voltage does jack-o. I've upped RAM voltage 0.1V already, and not really willing to go any higher.

So the next 2 results are based on CPU speed of 3.36ghz.

549/516: 77 5158
551/551: 78 5301

I'm not very sure how high I can push the card, being a brand new card, I don't really want to burn it :D

ATI tools pushed core to 581 before crashing, and about there for mem too.

Next on my shopping trip:
Antec TP2 PSU
2x512gb CL2 PC3200
Northbridge Chipset cooler
Arctic Silver 5
Arctic Cooling Silencer ATI4 Rev2 (which has run out from the local shop :dead:)

Just to update, I played around with my new card a little more, and managed to find an upper limit for both card and CPU. I also changed the RAM to a Corsair Twinx1024 4400cl25.

Here's the excel printout for the 3dmark2k5 score.
