I have a Dell Dimension L933r with a 810E chipset and 810AA video.

A14 BIOS and Win98SE. Everything has the latest drivers and upgrades.

All is fine until I try to install an Ambient vqh1456-A modem.

No Matter which of the 4 slots the modem is in, once there, the computer will not power up.

Press the on button and there is nothing.

Take the modem out, unplug the power cord for a few seconds and all is fine again.

The modem works fine in an AMD 500 and another unit that had this same PIII in it.

Put a sound card in the same slot and it works fine.

This is a project unit and I've never had any modem in it.

Help!

In my Dell experiences with that 810 chipset it didn't like many peripherals at all.
The video was a bear to get right.
As to the modem issue if i recall correctly i HAD to use the winmodem drivers from the Dell site specifically for the 810 chipset. No other drivers would even initialise the modem.
As to the modem keeping the machine from booting i can't say other than it must hate that modem. It runs in other machines so its not the modem.
I would just get another PCI modem they are dirt cheap now.
Grab that winmodem driver for the 810 just in case.

patio.
