No Sound

My friend's computer's hard drive crashed a while back and he got a new one. He plugged the monitor's speakers in and they dont work. The computer does not detect the audio device from the control panel and he does not get the sound manager icon on the bottom right of his screen.
He has a V7 R22W02 monitor.
Any help would be great, from drivers (hes not sure if he has them all) or anything.

Start > Run > devmgmt.msc > Ok. Any devices with yellow questions marks need probably in need of drivers.

Go to the PC manufacturers website (www.hp.com for instance), and visit the support section. Either enter a Serial number specific to that PC or navigate to the page dedicated to the model of that PC and download the drivers there.
