Nokia cancels X7, readies E7 for next month

Nokia has cancelled plans to launch the X7 exclusively with US mobile provider AT&T, just before the device was supposed to be announced. "This was Nokia's decision," an anonymous source, who asked not to be named because the companies have not made a public announcement, told Reuters. "AT&T would have been likely to announce the phone fairly soon."

The two companies had been planning on making an announcement ahead of the Mobile World Congress trade show next month in Barcelona, Spain. Nokia reportedly pulled the X7 because it believed the touchscreen phone wasn't going to receive enough marketing and subsidies support from AT&T, but the company still plans to launch the X7 in other markets, according to anonymous sources quoted by The Wall Street Journal. The cancellation is yet another setback for Nokia, which is struggling to compete in the mobile phone market as of late.

At the same time, Nokia's Finnish store has put the E7 up for pre-order, with a price tag of €599 ($806.97). The business device should arrive in February, 2011; the phone was originally supposed to ship last year, but the company decided to delay it.

The E7 is similar to the Nokia N8, but features a full slide-out keyboard and is intended to appeal to earlier users of Nokia's Communicator line and Qwerty-keyboard phones. It was introduced at the Nokia World trade show on September 14, 2010 at a list price of €495 ($666.86), before taxes and operator subsidies.

I wouldn't be surprised if that 37% value dropped to the mid to low 20's. In 2 years time, maybe even by the end of this year, Android will have the highest market share %. Only the 2012 apocalypse can stop this from happening

Symbian has a fairly sizeable base of users since it was introduced to the market years earlier than Android. That's why Nokia continues to push out Symbian devices even though Android, iOS and even WP7 are now the current preferred flavors of the market. That said, keeping these customers loyal to the Symbian platform will be a huge challenge for Nokia in the coming years and company needs to produce devices that will excite the market rather than just be content with their current market share.

Android I would say it has the potential to be as great as Symbian,

WP7 looks more like a bad joke from MS. It is almost as bad as iOS. Locked down pice of crap that lets you do nothing, not even multitsking, even though they claim it has that.

Try running 38 programs simuntaniasly on iOS or WP7, without lag. And at that any program you choose, written by anyone, not just some "approved by the gods" software

Try adding expaniding memory while running (hotplug), try connecting to your TV via HDMI or analog.
Can you connect a fullsize keyboard or a mouse to WP7? ...Can you even sync to Outlook? (Nope)

Symbian is the superior OS at the moment, the only threat is Android, and that is just good, competition sparks innovation. ....

.if you are not Microsoft and Apple apparently, then the future is moran-ification of the masses.

Say anythinh you can do on Wp7 that you cant do and havnt been able to do for years on a Symbian phone.

for the last time, an GUI is not a OS. ....a UI is only up to personal preference, and with Symbian you can change the preference and the UI if you feel like it.

Sure.... the biggest of the all will go belly up just because Apple is failing agains Android and no longer is growing ...or Microsoft is failing in their sales of WP7?

Sure they will go belly up when the reently have expanded and incresed sales. and the use of symbian actually is going up.

Even though they have the biggest "app"store in china, even thuogh the store started as late as 2009 they have blown the competition away, even local markets.

They have lost to competition in the indian market, but now recently was voted the most trusted brand in the world in just India. And the lost of sales have been to cheap knockoffs, hardly lost to Apple.

A company that might go belly up is Sony Ericsson. They moved to Android, and in same move lost their unique brand. ... with Android people mention some brands, but almost never SE.

Android saved SE as a company, they would be brancrupt by now otherwise, but now not having their own unique selling point or an own OS is starting to show. ....they sales of units have increased , but profits have been dropping. Recently it dropped again...and if there is no PSP Phone soon, this might end bad. They have basiclly one good phone at the moment, running an ancient verion of Android.

Nokia on the other hand have hundreds of phones, for all type of needs and pricepoints.

If you want a cheap phone for $15 - 99 that is NOT touch, and that have a battery life for a week or two ...who do you turn to? ... Nokia. There is not a lot of manufacturers in the world still doing mobile phones, that is just a mobile phone.

The world is not filled with people of MTV with rich daddys and moronic deals with operators that hold you hostage for years in a contract. It is mostly filled by people with a sensible mind, just enough money to get buy, and just the need to make a call.
