Nvidia geforce 8600 gt code 10 error: device cannot start

hi, just got a new cpu

windows XP, quad core Q6600, 4gig ram, nvidia geforce 8600 gt. if you need more info, the full description is in the link

problem is that when installing the 8600 gt, it just doesnt install

1. insert cd
2. autorun window: install display driver
3. restart, as prompted to complete installation
4. when cpu restarts the hardware is not installed, the cpu still says that the hardware is not connected, code 10 error

i tried the latest nvidia driver, the one released on 19/dec, but that didnt help, same problem occured, as in after the restart the hardware still wasnt installed

the spec shows a gigabyte card - have you changed it?

Albert is probably right -> try uninstalling your old card through add/remove programs -> look for an uninstall utility or remove each entry individually before installing the new card
